Amazon Insurance Changes Nov 2: Safety Categories and the Insurance Accelerator

From November 2, 2026, Amazon's insurance rule changes in two important ways. Sellers with products in "enhanced safety" categories will need $1 million of commercial liability coverage from the first sale, not only after passing $10,000 a month. And sellers based in Mainland China will have to get newly submitted policies through the Amazon Insurance Accelerator. This guide explains who is affected and how to get compliant before the deadline.

For the general insurance rules, see our earlier Amazon seller liability insurance guide; this article covers what changes on November 2.

What changes on November 2

Amazon posted the notice in its US Seller Forums on September 3, 2026, giving 60 days' notice, according to PPC Land (Sept 21, 2026) and Novadata (Sept 7, 2026):

  • Category trigger. Sellers with products in enhanced safety categories must hold a commercial liability policy covering those products regardless of monthly sales. It applies to both new and existing listings.
  • The old trigger stays for everyone else. Other sellers still need a policy within 30 days after gross proceeds exceed $10,000 in a month.
  • Mainland China sellers. PPC Land quotes Amazon: "Starting November 2, 2026, we will reject newly submitted insurance policies that are not obtained through AIA." Valid third-party policies submitted before that date can be used until they expire.

Which categories count

Amazon's notice names children's products, cosmetic and ingestible products and lithium battery products, and says the categories "include, but are not limited to" these. PPC Land, citing SellerEssentials, lists 11 enhanced safety categories:

#Enhanced safety categoryExamples
1Children's productsToys, baby gear
2Consumable and ingestible productsSupplements, cosmetics
3Fire-related productsFire extinguishers
4General household devicesSmall kitchen appliances
5Home medical devices—
6Lithium battery productsPower banks, battery-powered devices
7Outdoor power and heating equipment—
8Personal safety equipment—
9Sleep productsMattresses
10Transport-related productsTires
11Water and marine safety products—

Examples beyond those Amazon names are illustrative. Check the category assigned to each ASIN in Seller Central; Amazon's list is "not limited to" these.

What the policy must include

PPC Land and Novadata summarize Amazon's published requirements:

  • Commercial general, umbrella or excess liability, generally on an occurrence basis.
  • At least $1,000,000 per occurrence and in the aggregate.
  • Deductible no higher than $10,000, shown on the certificate.
  • Covers all products sold on Amazon.com.
  • Amazon.com Services LLC, its affiliates and assignees named as additional insureds.
  • Insured name matching the legal entity on the selling account.

What is the Amazon Insurance Accelerator?

The Amazon Insurance Accelerator (AIA) is a network of vetted insurers set up with broker Marsh. Sellers reach it in Seller Central under Settings › Account Info › Business Insurance. Marsh's program page says sellers can get quotes from multiple carriers online. For sellers outside Mainland China, using AIA remains optional; for Mainland China sellers, new policies from November 2 must come through it.

Premiums vary by category, revenue and claims history. PPC Land cites earlier AIA quotes reported by EcomCrew of $837 to $2,200 a year for sellers with $500,000 to $1 million in revenue; treat these as examples, not a price list.

What happens if you're not covered?

Amazon's notice does not state the consequence. PPC Land reports that SellerEssentials describes a 45-day window to submit proof before enhanced-safety listings can be deactivated, while a forum email gives November 2 as the deadline. Plan for the stricter reading.

Compliance checklist

  1. List all ASINs in enhanced safety categories, including low-volume ones.
  2. Check your current policy: limit, deductible, occurrence basis, additional insureds, insured name.
  3. If you are based in Mainland China and need a new policy, get quotes through AIA in Seller Central before November 2.
  4. If your existing third-party policy is valid, upload it before November 2 and note its expiry date.
  5. Diarize renewal at least 30 days ahead, and keep certificates on file.
