Amazon Vine Guide: Eligibility, Fees and How to Launch With Reviews
A new Amazon listing with zero reviews struggles to convert, and you can't buy or swap reviews without breaking Amazon's rules and the law. Amazon Vine is the official way to get early, honest reviews from trusted reviewers. This guide covers who can use it, what it costs, how the timing works and how to avoid wasting units.
What Amazon Vine is
Vine invites a group of trusted Amazon reviewers, called Vine Voices, to request free units of your product and post honest reviews. You don't choose the reviewers and you can't influence the rating. Amazon says products enrolled in Vine see sales rise by an average of 30%, based on its internal data, according to Amazon's Vine page.
Who can use Vine
- A Professional selling account (currently $39.99 a month plus selling fees, per Amazon).
- A Brand Representative or Reseller role for a brand enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, or generic products in your catalog.
- Eligible FBA offers. The listing must use Fulfillment by Amazon, and inventory must be in Amazon fulfillment centers to ship to Vine Voices.
- Fewer than 30 reviews on the product detail page, plus an image and description.
- Not eligible: adult, digital and bundled products.
Vine is available in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia and Japan stores.
What it costs
Amazon charges a one-time enrollment fee per parent product, based on how many units you offer. Child variations under the same parent add no extra fee.
| Store | 3–10 units | 11–30 units |
|---|---|---|
| US | $75 | $200 |
| Canada | CAD 100 | CAD 240 |
| UK | GBP 60 | GBP 140 |
| EU stores | EUR 70 | EUR 170 |
| Japan | JPY 10,000 | JPY 22,000 |

Key billing rules from Amazon:
- You aren't charged until 30 days after enrollment and after your first Vine review is published.
- If you don't get a Vine review within 90 days of enrollment, you aren't charged.
- New sellers enrolling a brand in Brand Registry receive a $200 Vine credit. See our guide to Brand Registry growth tools.
Remember the real cost is higher than the fee: you also give away the units, and pay to make and ship them to FBA.
How to choose the number of units
- Testing a product or tight on cash: enroll up to 2 units for free.
- Standard launch: 3–10 units for $75 can give you a modest base of early reviews.
- Competitive category or main hero SKU: 11–30 units for $200 builds a stronger base, as long as you're confident in the product.
Vine reviewers are honest. If the product has a weakness, Vine will find it fast and in public. Fix packaging, instructions and quality problems before enrolling, not after.
Timing your Vine launch
Amazon advises having inventory in the fulfillment network at least three weeks before your planned launch date. A practical sequence:
- Finalize the listing: images, title, bullets and A+ content.
- Ship FBA inventory, including enough units for Vine plus early sales.
- Enroll in Vine as soon as inventory is available, choosing your unit count (up to 30).
- Start Sponsored Products ads while reviews arrive, but keep budgets modest until the rating settles.
- Read every Vine review and fix any recurring issue in the listing or product.
Rules to respect
Don't contact Vine reviewers, ask for positive reviews, or combine Vine with any review incentive outside Amazon's programs. Amazon's rules and the US FTC fake reviews rule both target fake and incentivized reviews. Vine works because Amazon controls the process; keep it that way.
Vine checklist
- Confirm Professional account, Brand Registry role and FBA offer.
- Check the product has fewer than 30 reviews and isn't a bundle.
- Decide units: 2 (free), 3–10 ($75) or 11–30 ($200) per parent.
- Get inventory into FBA at least three weeks before launch.
- Track reviews for 90 days and act on feedback.
