Ship with Walmart Comes to ShipStation: Discounted Labels and Lost-Package Protection
Walmart Marketplace sellers who ship their own orders can now buy Walmart's discounted shipping labels without leaving ShipStation, one of the most widely used multichannel shipping tools. The launch, announced on October 6, 2026, comes with lost-package protection and a subscription discount, just as holiday volumes start to climb. Here is what it includes and what to check before switching.
What was announced
According to ShipStation's October 6, 2026 press release and product blog:
- Walmart-negotiated rates in ShipStation. Walmart Marketplace sellers can buy eligible "Ship with Walmart" labels inside ShipStation, using rates Walmart has negotiated with domestic carriers, alongside their existing carrier accounts.
- US domestic only. The program currently supports US domestic shipments.
- Lost-package protection. Eligible orders shipped on time can receive up to $100 for lost-item claims, covering lost-in-transit and after-delivery claims. Sellers can also request a review of negative feedback for approved claims.
- Subscription discount. Walmart sellers new to ShipStation who activate Ship with Walmart get 20% off their ShipStation subscription for one year; terms apply.
- Simplified settings. ShipStation says recommended carrier and service options are based on the seller's delivery promise, helping on-time delivery and valid tracking metrics.
Matt Norman, ShipStation's vice president of strategic business development, said: "Sellers get Walmart-negotiated rates and seller protections, including up to $100 of order protection." PYMNTS notes that ShipStation lets sellers manage Walmart orders alongside Amazon, TikTok Shop, Shopify and eBay orders in the same tool.

What to watch out for
EcomCrew points out several limits. Walmart describes its protection as a discretionary benefit rather than insurance. It covers lost orders, not packages that arrive damaged. And labels bought with your own negotiated carrier account ("bring your own account") are excluded, so you may have to choose between your own rates and Walmart's protection. ShipStation's blog advertises rates "up to 50%" below market, but that is a company claim; compare real rates on your own shipments.
Why Walmart is doing this
PYMNTS cites Walmart CFO John David Rainey saying in April that marketplace sales were growing about 20%. More sellers shipping their own orders means more risk of late or lost deliveries, which hurts the customer experience. Putting Walmart's rates and protections inside the tools sellers already use is a low-friction way to raise delivery standards, alongside programs such as WFS.
What it means for sellers (our analysis)
- Easier Walmart fulfillment for multichannel sellers. If you already run Amazon and TikTok Shop orders through ShipStation, adding Walmart labels with seller protections removes a separate workflow.
- Performance metrics matter more in Q4. On-time shipping and valid tracking affect your Walmart account health and badges. Labels that support these metrics are useful in peak season.
- $100 is a cap, not full value. For higher-value orders, the protection covers only part of a loss; keep other coverage in place.
- Rate shopping is still essential. Regional carriers or your own contracts may beat Walmart's rates on some lanes.
Checklist before you switch
- Pick 20–30 recent Walmart orders across weights and zones and compare Ship with Walmart rates with your current labels.
- Check your average order value against the $100 protection cap.
- Decide which orders should use Walmart labels and which should stay on your own accounts.
- Confirm handling times so orders ship on time and qualify for protection.
- Read Walmart's current seller protection policy in Seller Center.
Tip: Set ShipStation automation rules by order weight and destination, so each order uses the cheapest label that still meets your delivery promise.
