TikTok Shop Trends 2026: Beauty, $40 Products and a Top-Heavy Market

What actually sells on TikTok Shop in the US, and who sells it? On October 9, 2026, research firm Marketplace Pulse published its TikTok Shop Trends Report 2026, built from tracking more than 150,000 US sellers and 4.5 million products. The headline findings: TikTok Shop sells things for the body, at around $40, and a small group of sellers takes most of the sales. Here is what the data says and what it means for brands deciding how to approach the platform.

What the report found

According to Marketplace Pulse's summary (Oct 9, 2026), confirmed in a write-up by Ecommerce Paradise (Oct 9):

  • Products for the body dominate. Among top sellers, "more than two-thirds of revenue comes from things applied to the body, taken into it, or worn on it." Beauty alone is close to 30%.
  • The price sweet spot is about $40. "The median top product sells for around $40."
  • Content drives sales, unevenly. Followers, video output and catalog size all correlate with sales, but Marketplace Pulse says only one of them predicts it; the full answer is in the downloadable report.
  • The leaderboard churns. Marketplace Pulse says the leaderboard "turns over faster than on any marketplace" it tracks: a viral month can lift a seller into the top ranks, but staying there is harder.

A market of a few big winners

Earlier research by the same firm shows how concentrated the platform is. In an analysis published June 11, 2026 covering close to 100,000 US TikTok Shop sellers, Marketplace Pulse found that the top 1% (fewer than 900 sellers) drove 60% of tracked GMV, the top 0.1% (fewer than 90 sellers) over 25%, and the bottom half roughly 0.1%:

Share of tracked US TikTok Shop GMV
Top 0.1% figure is "over 25%"; bottom-half figure is "roughly 0.1%". The top 0.1% is part of the top 1%.

By comparison, Marketplace Pulse noted that on Amazon fewer than 8,000 sellers, about 1.6% of the active base, generate half of third-party GMV. The same analysis found that sellers with an Official Store badge move roughly 40 times the volume of unbadged sellers, and Gold Star sellers close to 18 times. These are lifetime GMV estimates, not current run rates.

Context: TikTok is adding more shopping tools

The report lands as TikTok pushes further into commerce. On October 5–6, 2026, at Advertising Week New York, TikTok unveiled Buy Direct, a one-click checkout from the For You feed, and a conversational AI Shopping Assistant, developed with partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe, as reported by Net Influencer (Oct 6, 2026). Rollout timing for these tools was not detailed.

What it means for sellers (our analysis)

Category fit matters more than on Amazon. If you sell beauty, personal care, supplements, apparel or accessories, TikTok Shop is a natural channel. If you sell furniture, tools or high-ticket items, expect to work harder for each sale and treat TikTok more as discovery than as a main revenue source.

Price for impulse. A median top product around $40 suggests shoppers buy on impulse from a video. Bundles, starter kits and smaller sizes that land near that price can help conversion.

Plan for spikes, not steady growth. With a fast-moving leaderboard, a viral video can multiply orders overnight. Keep safety stock and a fast reorder path for hero SKUs, and avoid long-term commitments based on one great month.

Badges and account health are worth the work. The badge data is correlation, not proof, but strong store performance and badges tend to go with higher volume. See our guide to the TikTok Shop Account Health Rating.

Creators remain the engine. Content volume is tied to sales; a steady creator program usually beats one-off campaigns. Our creator sampling guide covers how to start.

Checklist

  1. Check whether your category falls in the body-related group (beauty, personal care, wellness, apparel).
  2. Build at least one offer near the $30–$50 range, such as a bundle or trial size.
  3. Line up a steady flow of creator videos rather than a single launch push.
  4. Set inventory rules for viral spikes: safety stock and a reorder trigger.
  5. Track store performance metrics weekly to protect eligibility for badges and promotions.
