Walmart Seller Performance Standards: The 8 Metrics and Thresholds

On Walmart Marketplace, selling well is not enough; you also have to ship, track and serve customers to Walmart's standards. Miss them and your listings can be suppressed or your account suspended. Walmart's Seller Performance Standards set eight metrics, each with a clear threshold. This guide lists them, explains what drives each one, and gives a weekly routine to stay in the green.

The eight metrics and thresholds

From Walmart's Seller performance standards (last updated July 28, 2026):

MetricWhat it measuresThresholdWindow
Cancellation RateOrders canceled by the seller after receiving them from Walmart2% or below30 or 60 days
On-Time Delivery RateOrders delivered on or before the Expected Delivery Date90% or above30 or 60 days
Valid Tracking RateOrders with valid tracking information99% or above30 or 60 days
Seller Response RateCustomer inquiries answered within 48 hours95% or above30 or 60 days
Negative Feedback RateOrders with a one- or two-star customer rating2% or below60 days
Return RateDelivered orders returned by the customer6% or below (9% for Resold inventory)60 days
Item Not Received RateOrders not delivered to the customer2% or below60 days
Late Shipment RateOrders shipped after the Expected Ship Date5% or below30 or 60 days

The "rate limits" in one view:

Walmart limits: maximum allowed rates
Return rate limit is 9% for Resold inventory. Return, negative feedback and item-not-received rates use a 60-day window.

Walmart says that if your account misses any standard you must act immediately, and that continued failure may lead to suppression, suspension or termination. Notifications come by email and in Seller Center, and you cannot opt out. Walmart also notes that for sellers using Walmart Fulfillment Services, Negative Feedback Rate is the only metric the seller still owns.

What drives each metric, and how to fix it

Cancellations and late shipments

Both come down to inventory accuracy and handling time. Sync inventory at least several times a day across channels, set a realistic lag time, and avoid overselling during promotions. Walmart's advice: meet your Estimated Ship Date to avoid auto-cancellations.

On-time delivery and item not received

These depend on your carrier and service choice. Walmart recommends choosing the right lag time, shipping method, carrier and service level. Only use carriers on Walmart's approved parcel carrier list, and avoid promising delivery dates your carrier can't meet in peak season. See our article on Walmart's newly approved carriers.

Valid tracking

Walmart says to provide accurate tracking numbers only after the package is handed to the carrier. Upload tracking promptly, make sure your shipping software maps the carrier name correctly, and avoid placeholder or re-used numbers.

Response rate

Answer every customer message within 48 hours, including weekends during peak season. Templates for common questions (shipping time, returns, sizing) help.

Negative feedback and returns

Both point to listing accuracy and product quality. Walmart suggests clear descriptions, accurate inventory and reviewing carrier choices. Read return reasons weekly and fix the top causes in titles, images and size information.

A weekly performance routine

  1. Open the Performance dashboard in Seller Center every Monday and note any metric near its limit.
  2. Check inventory sync and lag times before promotions.
  3. Spot-check tracking uploads for each carrier you use.
  4. Clear the customer inbox daily; aim for under 24 hours.
  5. Review returns and 1–2 star ratings; fix one listing issue per week.
  6. Before peak season, add buffer to lag time rather than risk late shipments.
Metrics with a 60-day window recover slowly. A bad week in November can still affect your account in January, so prevention is far cheaper than recovery.

Peak season watch-outs

November and December put every metric under pressure: order volumes jump, carriers slow down and customers ask more questions. Three habits help most: add a day of lag time on items that are hard to restock, keep a backup carrier ready if your main one falls behind, and staff customer service for weekends. Then check the dashboard daily rather than weekly until mid-January.
