2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines: USPS, FedEx and UPS Ship-By Dates
Every December, some shoppers wait too long and some sellers promise too much. Knowing each carrier's last recommended ship date lets you set clear "order by" messages, plan staffing and avoid a wave of late-delivery complaints. This guide collects the 2026 holiday ship-by dates published for USPS and FedEx, with notes on UPS, and a checklist to plan around them.
USPS: 2026 recommended send-by dates

Military (APO/FPO/DPO) Ground Advantage is as early as Wednesday, November 4. USPS notes that actual delivery may vary based on origin, destination, acceptance time and other conditions.
FedEx: 2026 last recommended ship dates
FedEx's 2026 dates target arrival by December 24, as reported by Value Added Resource (Sept 24, 2026) and ShipStation (updated Oct 21, 2026):

UPS: what we know
As of late September, Value Added Resource reported that UPS had not published 2026 ship-by dates, that delivery is available for all services on Christmas Eve, that there is no Ground pickup on December 24, and that UPS is closed for regular pickup and delivery on Christmas Day. ShipStation's October 21 update lists UPS 3 Day Select by December 21, 2nd Day Air by December 22 and Next Day Air by December 23, and directs UPS Ground shippers to UPS's calculate-time-and-cost tool. Confirm UPS dates with UPS before you rely on them.
How to use these dates
- Work backwards from your handling time. If you need two business days to pick and pack, your own "order by" date for Ground Advantage is about two business days before December 17.
- Add a buffer. These are recommendations, not guarantees. Many sellers set customer cutoffs a day or two earlier.
- Show clear messages. Put "Order by [date] for delivery before Christmas" on listings, your website and order confirmations.
- Offer an upgrade after the cutoff. After the ground deadline, offer Priority Mail or FedEx Express options at checkout for last-minute buyers.
- Plan pickups. Book extra carrier pickups for the busiest weeks, and remember there is no UPS Ground pickup on December 24.
- Know your marketplace rules. Marketplace delivery promises and FBA inventory deadlines are separate from carrier dates; check each platform.

Don't forget peak pricing
Holiday shipping also costs more. USPS's temporary holiday prices for Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and Parcel Select run from October 4, 2026 to January 17, 2027, and UPS and FedEx apply their own peak surcharges through the season. If you upgrade late orders to faster services, check that the extra cost is covered by your shipping charge or margin. Our 2026 peak season surcharges article has the details.
